Small cake is about Manju, Dorayaki and Ningyo Yaki which includes red bean jam “Azuki” inside. In the Muromachi era (1336-1568), RinJouin brought this food to Japan and changed the included meat to red bean jam for Buddhist priests. At the very beginning,there were only two flavors. Sugar Manju and vegetable Manju steamed with salt. Currently, there are many flavors like red beans, Chestnuts, Matcha and Yuzu.
